Episode 203 – Enough Popcorn for Four Hours

Posted on February 24, 2011

fatguysatthemovies_banner

This Week: It’s the 2011 Big Fat Oscar Special, and Kevin Carr invites FlickChick.tv’s Kelly Gingery into the Magical Studio in the Sky to talk about this week’s new releases, even though they didn’t see either of them. Soon they move on to the Super Bowl of movies and talk about whose gonna win the Big Six (plus a couple others) at the Oscars. Kelly and Kevin agree on many things, though there are some debates. They also chat about the box office, respond to a new listerner voice mail (thanks, Chris from Lansing!) and lay down a Fat Guy Five about the most unlikely nominees.

This Week: Stepping out of the February cold, Kevin invites Todd Tieuli from the Dangerous Memories podcast into the Magical Studio in the Sky. They take a look at the new releases, including I Am Number Four, Unknown and the obvious sign of the apocalypse known as Big Mommas: Like Father Like Son. After chatting about the current state of 3D in theaters and home video, the Fat Guys also lay down a Fat Give Five about fat-suit movies that were actually fun to watch.

fatguysatthemovies_banner

This Week: In an effort to show how worldly Fat Guys at the Movies is, Kevin invites Jamaican bloggger Andrew Robinson (from www.gmanreviews.com) into the Magical Studio in the Sky for the first international broadcast of the podcast. Even though Andrew hasn’t seen the movies this week, Kevin takes a chance to shoot some warning shots over the bow of the new Justin Bieber movie and Adam Sandler. Kevin and Andrew wax poetic about Gnomeo and Juliet and The Eagle. They also share their thoughts on box office, trailer spoilers and which Adam Sandler movies are actually entertaining.

fatguysatthemovies_banner

This Week: Neil makes a triumphant return to the Magical Studio in the Sky while Kevin hits the flux capacitor to take the entire audience on a time travel adventures. With this episode, the Fat Guys hit the milestone of a 200th episode, which is damn near four years in your ears. Scary, huh? Kevin and Neil reminisce about starting the show on March 30, 2007 in a car, leading them to their status as podcasting legends. They also take some time to chat about Sanctum 3D and The Roommate as well as answering a listener voicemail. Then it’s a look back at the last 200 episodes with some well-wishes from friends of the show as well as the Fat Guy Five: Five Favorite Fat Guy Memories.

This Week: While Neil is indisposed with wrangling massive Sundance coverage, Kevin invites Tim Buel from The Golden Briefcase into the Magical Studio in the Sky to look at the new releases, including The Mechanic and The Rite. They also talk Sundance news, Oscar nominations, box office and the Kevin Smith conundrum. Also, in honor of The Mechanic, Kevin and Tim lay down a Fat Guy Five about which action movies deserve a remake.

Episode 198 – Titillating and Scintillating

Posted on January 20, 2011

fatguysatthemovies_banner

This Week: The Fat Guys affirm that they are friends but prefer to get their benefits elsewhere. But that doesn’t stop Neil from gushing over Natalie Portman like a chubby fifteen-year-old at Comic-Con. Kevin pooh-poohs the movie because he didn’t get a chance to see it, and he bemoans the fact that Neil has seen more movies this week. They also talk about Peter Weir and how flabbergasted Neil is by him, plus some wah-boo-hooing about The Company Men. Finally, after some box office predictions and a voice mail, they lay down a Fat Guy Five about which Hollywood hotties they’d like to have as friends with benefits.

Episode 197 – We May Even Give You a Lollipop

Posted on January 13, 2011

fatguysatthemovies_banner

This Week: The Fat Guys go green this week while they test their skillz as superheroes. Unfortunately, without a cool-ass side-kick who can also make a mean cappuccino, they’re left with two chubby dudes who can’t fight worth a damn. But they can talk movies. So they give the audience the low-down on The Green Hornet and The Dilemma before laying down a Fat Guy Five about awesome sidekicks.

Episode 196 – Puppies Are Easier to Please Than Strippers

Posted on January 7, 2011

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: With the coming of January, the Fat Guys face a coming of some pretty mediocre (and some downright terrible) movies. What comes with that territory is the fact that a good number of those movies aren’t screened. So even though they had a chance to see the Gwyneth Paltrow Oscar-bait flick Country Strong, there was no way to see Nicolas Cage and his mullet in Season of the Witch. So to fill the time, the Fat Guys trade stories about homeless people and explain why puppies are easier to please than strippers.

Episode 195 – The Big Fat End-of-the-Year Special

Posted on December 31, 2010

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: As 2010 rolls to a close, the Fat Guys roll into the Magical Studio in the Sky, braving phlegm and other ailments to talk about the best and worst of the year and maybe review a movie or two. They stutter their way through a review of The King’s Speech and also get nasty-sexy with a review of Blue Valentine. Then in the infamous third segment, the Fat Guys respond to an irate listener voice mail before talking about their picks for best and worst of 2010. All of this is wrapped up in the final minutes of 2010 with some of the most lackluster DVD and Blu-ray picks in months. Should old acquaintance be forgot… Bring on 2011!

Episode 194 – The Big Fat Christmas Special 2010

Posted on December 24, 2010

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: As one big fat guy plans on sneaking into your house in the middle of the night, two other fat guys seek to entertain you as they talk about the new movies of Christmas week. Of course, it’s not hard to be entertaining when you’re looking at drivel such as Little Fockers and Gulliver’s Travels. At least there’s a Coen Brothers movie in the mix with True Grit. Neil only sees the good film this week, and Kevin is so traumatized by Little Fockers that he can’t even make a good stripper joke. Finally, the Fat Guys lay down a Fat Guy Five about the most insane (and only sometimes awesome) Christmas movies out there. Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas from the Magical Studio in the Sky.

Episode 193 – Fat Legacy

Posted on December 17, 2010

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: Like the return of the classic science fiction film Tron to theaters, Neil makes a triumphant return to the Magical Studio in the Sky. And as a special Christmas gift to Kevin, he has seen the same number of movies this week. See… Christmas miracles do happen. Full of Yuletide joy, the Fat Guys chat about Dan Akroyd and Justin Timberlake in Yogi Bear, guess about what might happen in How Do You Know, punch their way through award season with The Fighter and enter the grid with Tron: Legacy. Then they talk some box office and throw down a Fat Guy Five about cartoons they want to see get their own live-action/CGI film. The results may surprise you.

Episode 192 – Fat Guy and the Whale

Posted on December 10, 2010

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: While Neil is busy shopping for a huuuuuuuuge Christmas gift for Kevin, Chase Whale from GordonandtheWhale.com visits the Magical Studio in the Sky. After Kevin berates Chase for his jogging habits, the Fat Guy and the Phat Guy talk about the latest Narnia movie. Later, they lament about boring, old everyman Johnny Depp in The Tourist. Finally, after an uncharacteristically professional conversation about box office, they lay down a Fat Guy Five about the best franchises that do not involve Johnny Depp or Angelina Jolie. Then it’s DVD and Blu-ray picks before putting a lid on the show.

Episode 191 – The Fat Swan

Posted on December 3, 2010

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: This week, Neil Miller has overdosed on turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie, a self-destructive behavior that landed him directly into Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. Kevin wishes Neil a speedy recovery and has invited FSR box office guru and co-host of The Golden Briefcase, Jeremy Kirk, into the Magical Studio in the Sky. They talk about the new wide releases that no one has seen and the limited releases that apparently everyone has. From insane ballerinas to kung fu cowboys, Kevin and Jeremy try to do Neil justice by talking about a bunch of movies they haven’t seen… and saying a lot of creepy things about Natalie Portman.

Episode 190 – Burley-Q

Posted on November 25, 2010

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: For the Big Fat Thanksgiving Special, Neil takes off and skips the show, leaving Kevin alone in the Magical Studio in the Sky. So he invites Grae Drake from the Popcorn Mafia podcast to join him for a big plate of food with all the fixin’s. Grae takes her special talent for derailing the show and sends everything off the tracks in the infamous middle segment. Kevin tries to talk about the new movies, but they end up talking turkeys instead.

Episode 189 – Fatty Potter 7.1

Posted on November 19, 2010

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: With Neil indisposed for the holidays, Kevin welcomes Fozzie Bare back to the Magical Studio in the Sky, trading one fat guy with a beard who hasn’t seen any of the movies with another fat guy with a beard who hasn’t seen any of the movies. They talk about spies, wizards and how Russell Crowe is like a delicious cookie (but not in a good way). Kevin and Fozzie also talk about the Horror Hound Weekend in Cincinnati and lay down a Fat Guy Five about their five favorite ends to franchises. Oh, and Fozzie says “twat” in the radio segments. Egads!
