Episode 262 – I Think You’re High

Posted on April 26, 2012

This Week: After a week of estrogen releases, Kevin invites a lady into the Magical Studio in the Sky to talk about the only somewhat estrogen-filled release schedule in the movies houses this weekend. Shannon Hood from Frothygirlz.com joins Kevin to talk about pirates, weddings, Edgar Allan Poe and the merits and downfalls of Jason Statham movies. They also touch on smaller releases like The Sound of My Voice and The Innkeepers before moving onto a Fat Guy Five about awesome pirate movies. Then it’s back to the radio segment to chat about DVDs and whatnot before heading off into the sunset.

Episode 261 – Estrogen Week

Posted on April 19, 2012

This Week: It’s “Estrogen Week” in the Magical Studio in the Sky, where we celebrate chick flicks not because we love them but because those are the only big releases in theaters. So naturally, Kevin invites another dude into the Magical Studio in the Sky to talk about said chick flicks. They also talk about Chimpanzee, the height of various actors, Michael Bay’s penchant for racism, interacting with filmmakers they don’t particularly like and a Fat Guy Five about the awfulness that is Nicholas Sparks movies. They also throw in some DVD and Blu-ray recommendations before spraying down the studio with testosterone and declaring themselves awesome.

Episode 260 – Save the Vomit

Posted on April 12, 2012

This Week: Recovering from a weekend of eating hard boiled eggs and Easter candy, Kevin invites new guest Vish into the Magical Studio in the Sky to talk about genre films, bullying and the travesty that is The Three Stooges. They sound-off about sci-fi movies and then Kevin gushes over his love of the horror genre with a spoiler-free review of The Cabin in the Woods. In the infamous middle segment, Kevin pushes around Bully while Vish offers a different cultural view of bullying. They also talk about box office, what British spies have to do with Sid Vicious and a Fat Guy Five which ranks the real Three Stooges. Then it’s off to the DVD Round-Up and bidding farewell.

Episode 259 – Plum Line

Posted on April 5, 2012

This Week: For the big Easter weekend special, Kevin invites Dame Elisabeth Rappe back into the Magical Studio in the Sky for a marathon podcasting session. After discussing the finer points of dating in Mass Effect, they chat about Titanic 3D and American Reunion. After dropping some swear words in the radio segments, Elisabeth gets tight-lipped for the infamous middle segment, but the conversation goes completely off the rails. Topics include breast size, dolphin rape and the mysteries of John Denver. And that’s in addition to all the other fancy discussion about box office, listener feedback and a Fat Guy Five about fourth movies. Finally, it’s on to the DVD Round-Up and riding off into the sunset.

Episode 258 – On the Edge of Your Sheet

Posted on March 30, 2012

This Week: After weeks of new guest hosts, Kevin invites two veterans back into the Magical Studio in the Sky to talk about the new movies of the week. Liam and Ben Carr, his sons, join in on a discussion of Wrath of the Titans and Mirror Mirror. They also sound off about slave labor in the third grade classroom, what it means to be on “playground duty” and which of their teachers Kevin thinks are hot. They also chat a little about The Hunger Games and how it will fare this week at the box office as well as gushing over the classic television show Mystery-Science Theater 3000 (which might include a rendition of the theme song). Then they give a Fat Guy Five about which movies are great for kids to see in 3D and also some DVD recommendations.

Episode 257 – Entertaining My Pants Right Off

Posted on March 22, 2012

This Week: Being that Kevin is an expert on hunger, which is something he feels when he isn’t able to stuff his face for an hour or so, he eagerly awaits a discussion of the new film The Hunger Games. Also, since Kevin has no time to read anything more than picture books (because you’ll remember he read The Lorax several weeks ago), he invites Film School Rejects’ Associate Editor Kate Erbland into the Magical Studio in the Sky to discuss the book and film. They also give some restrained box office predictions and lay down a Fat Guy Five about movies that involve fighting to the death. Are you not entertained?

Episode 256 – Der Fure!

Posted on March 15, 2012

This Week: Kevin heads back to the editorial board of Film School Rejects to bring resident rage-meister Robert Fure into the Magical Studio in the Sky. They talk about the merits of skinny Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street as well as what the holy hell is happening in Casa De Mi Padre. They also wax poetic about the new Doritos Tacos Locos from Taco Bell and give an in-depth analysis of the misconceptions surrounding John Carter. Oh, and there’s some advice on which porn stars to follow on Twitter. Finally, it’s back on the radio for the DVD Round-up, with a brand spankin’ new Skywalker Sound whip effect. Yee-haw!

Episode 255 – Hoogalooga!

Posted on March 8, 2012

This Week: Kevin brings back a blast from the past into the Magical Studio in the Sky. Classic guest host Kristin Dreyer Kramer from NightsAndWeekends.com joins Kevin to talk about John Carter and Silent House, along with the lamentations about A Thousand Words with Eddie Murphy. KDK officially defends Katherine Heigl (at least for one instance) and complains about Ohio drivers in an atypical Ohio winter. They also talk about box office, some Dr. Seuss trivia courtesy of a listener and finally a Fat Guy Five using words to describe Eddie Murphy’s career. Then they wrap things up with the DVD Round-Up and Kevin pollutes KDK’s brain with disturbing imagery.

Episode 254 – It Wasn’t Scratch-and-Sniff

Posted on March 1, 2012

This Week: For the week after the Oscars, Kevin invites Nick Herum from MoviesHateYouToo.com to join him in the Magical Studio in the Sky for some intellectual discussion about this week’s films. Unfortunately, things derail fast in the third segment, which Kevin and Nick blame on the celluloid abortion known as Project X. There’s a brief moment of sensibility as they also talk about The Lorax, though the show is dominated by talk about extreme fetish pornography, gay racist Klingons and Shweddy Balls. They also chat a little about the Oscars and Kevin lists his favorite Dr. Seuss books. Then it’s into the final segment to talk DVDs and to give Nick a chance to swear on the radio.

Episode 253 – Evil Tornado Chasers

Posted on February 23, 2012

This Week: It’s Oscar Week in the Magical Studio in the Sky, so of course that means that it’s a Fat Guys discussion about the Navy SEALs, Tyler Perry, Jennifer Aniston and a 90s throwback thriller movie. Kevin invites fellow live-tweeter Leonard Wilson into the Magical Studio in the Sky to talk about this week’s films and give some insight into this weekend’s Oscar ceremony. They also chat about box office while Kevin calls shenanigans on box office reports. Then they answer a listener question before switching up the Fat Guy Five to make it the Fat Guy Six about the “big six” Oscar categories. Then it’s on to the DVD Round-Up where they both make some “Ooo Cat” noises. Oooooooo!

Episode 252 – Vomit Bullets and Wee-Wee Fire

Posted on February 16, 2012

This Week: It is a dark time for movie reviewers. Being the middle of February, most of the releases are absolute crap, and the studios haven’t screened them. But that doesn’t stop honey-badger reviewer Kevin Carr from pushing ahead with the Fat Guys at the Movies podcast. He invites Ronald Nicholls from BoxOfficeBuz.com to not review the new films this week, including Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (which was not screened for anyone, and that’s the studio that screened Jack and Jill) and This Means War (which suffered from marketing confusion and botched Valentine’s Day screenings). They also tip their hats to The Secret World of Arrietty, which is probably all kinds of awesome, but Disney didn’t screen it much because it is such a limited release. Kevin and Ron also answer a listener question, talk about the box office and list some of the best Studio Ghibli movies in the Fat Guy Five.

Episode 251 – As Good As Part One, But With Boobs

Posted on February 9, 2012

This Week: Kevin is as giddy as a school girl with the anticipation of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace in 3D. So much so, he paints his face like Darth Maul and invites Michael Neel, director of The Drive-In Horrorshow to join him in the Magical Studio in the Sky. Together they bemoan the presence of Channing Tatum in films today as well as wonder if Ryan Reynolds can hold up against Denzel Washington in an action movie. They also chat about The Rock’s latest family adventure film, then head into the middle segment to talk about box office and answer a listener email. They also chat about Michael’s anthology horror flick and lay down a Fat Guy Five about absolute crap films that they love. Then it’s the DVD Rundown and a big good-bye for the week.

Episode 250 – I Can Suck on Cherry Halls

Posted on February 2, 2012

This Week: It’s a monumental occasion for the Fat Guys Network because this marks the 250th episode of Fat Guys at the Movies. That’s five years of being on the air… or at least on the Internet. To celebrate, Kevin invites long-time guest host Fozzie Bare to talk about this weeks movies, including Chronicle, Big Miracle and The Woman in Black. They also talk about found footage, DVD picks and what porn stars they follow on Twitter. You know… a typical week in the Magical Studio in the Sky.

Episode 249 – Blowing Holes in These Bastards’ Crotches

Posted on January 26, 2012

This Week: Kevin invites fellow Film School Rejects writer Rob Hunter back to the Magical Studio in the Sky, where they fend off hungry wolves, ex-con jumpers and Katherine Heigl movies. They chat about the new films of hte week, then move into the infamous middle segment where they chew the fat about Sundance. Kevin also blows holes in the “Kevolution” that the lesser Kevin (Smith) claims to have created. They also weigh on on the Oscar nominations and lay down a Fat Guy Five about Man vs. Nature films. Then it’s off to the DVD Round-up, where Rob Hunter declares human trafficking to be “good fun.” Yikes!

Episode 248 – The Lando Apology

Posted on January 19, 2012

This Week: Kevin is awash in love for George Lucas, so he sallies forth to see Red Tails, then an early peek at Haywire. After having a few hopes dashed, he invites Emily Intravia from DeadlyDollsHouse.com and Gleekast to join him to talk about the new movies of the week. They chew the fat about George Lucas hits and misses, Steven Soderbergh’s way of redefining a genre and why British actress Kate Beckinsale sounds like she’s doing a fake British accent in the Underworld movies. They also talk about the Oscar bait flick Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close before going into box office analysis and a special George Lucas Fat Guy Five.
