TOP PICK

Bridge of Spies
Rated PG-13
Studio: DreamWorks
Formats available: BD, DVD, VOD
Steve Spielberg’s Oscar-nominated film about the negotiation for a prisoner exchange during the Cold War is a slow burn but very effectively done, featuring some fantastic performances by Tom Hanks and Mark Rylance. If you missed this one in theaters, it’s very much worth checking out in your home cinema. Special features include behind-the-scenes featurettes about the Cold War and the effects of the U-2 plane crash.

Back from the Disney vault, the granddaddy of all animated films includes Walt Disney’s brilliant first feature-length movie. New bonus content on the platinum anniversary Blu-ray includes never-before-seen storyboard, featurette and Walt Disney himself talking about making the film.

Our Brand Is Crisis
Rated R
Studio: Warner Bros.
Formats available: BD, DVD, VOD
This biting political comedy by David Gordon Green, based on real events, is far more prophetic and introspective into the American political process than some people were comfortable with. Still, it’s a pretty great movie with strong performances, making it far more relevant to what’s currently happening in the states than some would like to acknowledge.

Truth
Rated R
Studio: Sony
Formats available: BD, DVD, VOD
In spite of a miscast Robert Redford as Dan Rather, this examination of the downfall of CBS and 60 Minutes II is a quite deft look at the dangers of modern journalism.

Extraordinary Tales
Not Rated
Studio: Cinedigm
Formats available: BD, DVD, VOD
One of the best films released in 2015, this modern animated adaptation of a set of Edgar Allen Poe’s chilling stories is brilliantly made.

The Last Witch Hunter

This better-than-expected fantasy action film pits an immortal Vin Diesel against a coven of witches.

Big Stone Gap
Rated PG-13
Studio: Universal

This home-grown tale of love and family in the south is charming and not overly cheesy.

Suffragette
Rated PG-13
Studio: Focus Features

It’s a bit heavy-handed at times, but this bleak look at the early women’s suffrage movement in England is a worthwhile look back at history.

Rock the Kasbah

Billy Murray does his Bill Murray thing in this story of a music manager trying to find a new pop star in Afghanistan.
