Episode 251 – As Good As Part One, But With Boobs

Posted on February 9, 2012

This Week: Kevin is as giddy as a school girl with the anticipation of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace in 3D. So much so, he paints his face like Darth Maul and invites Michael Neel, director of The Drive-In Horrorshow to join him in the Magical Studio in the Sky. Together they bemoan the presence of Channing Tatum in films today as well as wonder if Ryan Reynolds can hold up against Denzel Washington in an action movie. They also chat about The Rock’s latest family adventure film, then head into the middle segment to talk about box office and answer a listener email. They also chat about Michael’s anthology horror flick and lay down a Fat Guy Five about absolute crap films that they love. Then it’s the DVD Rundown and a big good-bye for the week.

This Week: Kevin gets ready to take on the onslaught of 3D movies this weekend with the help of Emily from Gleekcast, who is fresh off of seeing the Glee: The 3D Concert Movie. (See… someone paid to see it this past week.) They ramble through a variety of topics, including gambling in Vegas, British accents and the great 80s conflict of Star Wars versus The SuperFriends. They also manage to talk about all the new movies this week, lay down a Fat Guy Five about great vampire hunters and suggest some awesome (and not-so-awesome) DVDs and Blu-rays.

This Week: Kevin put on his Jedi robe and grabs his lightsaber, inviting Star Wars expert Chris Spears into the Magical Studio in the Sky. The two discuss the history of X-Men movies as well as the new one opening this week. Then, they delve into a discussion of The People Versus George Lucas, geek tattoos, how to spell Chewbacca’s home planet and whether George Lucas raped anything, let along our childhoods. they also lay down a Fat Guy Five about the comic book characters that deserve their own film (with Kevin admitting that this subject has definitely been covered before) and then giving out some DVD recommendations.

This Week: Kevin welcomes Rudie Obias from Gordon and the Whale into the Magical Studio in the Sky. Even though Kevin hasn’t seen any of the films this week (with no thanks to the studios, who didn’t screen them anywhere in his state), he’s able to talk about them. Rudie takes a look at the kick-ass nature of Sucker Punch while Kevin tries to explain the appeal of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. Together they chat about box office, the state of 3D versus ticket price, DVD picks and a look at five fun films (and film series) aimed at the 14-year-old boy in all of us.

The Idiot Boxers – Episode 4

Posted on April 12, 2010

In this very special episode: In catch-up mode, the Idiot Boxers cover the slate of TV from the beloved 24 (RIP… sniff, sniff) to what show ABC wants to use as a replacement for LOST. They buzz about a Star Wars sit com and the loss of Merrill’s favorite new show Sons of Tucson. Kevin rants about Grey’s Anatomy and both Idiots lay into reality TV.

Fat Guy 5: Five Characters We Wish Were Killed

Posted on April 6, 2010

With the release this week of yet another Nicholas Sparks movie, we now have learned the true formula. Take a forbidden summer romance, throw in some upper-class/lower-class tension and nice picturesque shots of Savannah’s beaches, and you’re only missing one thing…

Like any good horror movie, a Nicholas Sparks movie would not be complete without someone dying.

And that got us thinking… if only every movie was written by Nicholas Sparks, who would we have liked to see bite it in other films. What follows is a fun, but hardly definitive, Fat Guy Five list!
