Episode 315 – Neutering the Film Industry

This Week: Kristin escapes from the Magical Studio in the Sky for a quick vacation to a place where she has to get vaccinations and bug-resistant clothing. Meanwhile, Kevin invites his New to Netflix co-host Nicholas Herum to fill Kristin’s shoes. And my, does he look funny in those high heels. This week, there’s not many releases, but the two fat guys manage to find plenty to say about exhibitors calling for more PG-13 movies and fewer R-rated movies, as well as the new film of the week: Iron Man 3. Later, they answer a listener voice mail about Joss Whedon and filmmaker fandom before rattling off some DVD suggestions and heading off into the sunset.

Episode 263 – I Need to Get That Glitter Out of My Mouth

This Week: The summer movie season has officially started, and Kevin has his big bucket of popcorn, ready to start watching big summer movies. Things kick off with Marvel’s The Avengers, so he invites die-hard fangirl Melissa Molina into the Magical Studio in the Sky to gush over this new superhero flick. They also talk about the coming-of-old-age movie The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, but the conversation is dominated by the guys in the funny suits. The middle segment offers more Avengers goodness, plus a Fat Guy Five which ranks the other pre-Avengers films. Finally, Kevin and Melissa talk about some DVD releases and sends the listening audience on their merry way to watch what is the best movie of the year so far.

Episode 243 – Getting Chip-Faced

This Week: As the holiday movie season swings into gear, Kevin invites Grae Drake from CNN, Movies.com and the Popcorn Mafia into the Magical Studio in the Sky to get chip-faced. They break down the new Sherlock Holmes movie before turning into chipmunks for the second segment. There, they give a squeaky-voiced review of the new Alvin and the Chipmunks movie as well as the only non-sequel in wide release, Young Adult. In the infamous middle segment, they look at the Golden Globe-nominated Carnage before Grae totally geeks out over Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. They also talk about sundry things like the weirdest porn Kevin’s seen on the internet, why Muslim women shouldn’t handle a big studded cucumber and how award season is shaping up. It’s a classy show to say the least.

On This Week’s Show: Neil Miller shows up in the Magical Studio in the Sky to lay down the gauntlet to Kevin Carr. After seeing movies almost exclusively at film festivals two or three times a year, Neil declares himself worthy because he’s seen two movies in limited release, compared to Kevin seeing two major releases for the week. Not surprisingly, neither one has seen the new Tyler Perry film, thanks to Lionsgate’s “we don’t screen our movies” policy. But the competent movie discussion soon deteriorates as Neil makes a Taxicab Confession about Star Wars in the infamous middle segment whilst laying down one of the best Fat Guy Fives in months.
