Episode 295 – He Don’t Talk Amurican

Posted on December 13, 2012

This Week: With only one major movie opening this week, Kevin and Kristin gather a team of dwarves and wizards to return to Middle Earth. There they talk about upper Michigan coldness with Deadfall and how handjobs and hot dogs changed American history in Hyde Park on Hudson. They also talk about that little independent film you’ve heard of called The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. In keeping with the spirit of Peter Jackson, this episode is presented in 48fps (which stands for 48 fat pudgy spasms). Kevin and Kristin also chat about DVDs and Blu-rays and learn how to properly say French words in movie titles.

Second Reel Ep. 23 – The 4th Annual 24-Hour Ohio Horror Marathon

Posted on September 25, 2012

On This Episode: Now that the days are getting cooler and the nights are getting longer, it’s time to look ahead towards October. That means Halloween is coming, and horror movies will be filling our days and nights. That also means that it’s time for the annual 24-hour Ohio Horror Marathon. Kevin welcomes back long-time marathon fanatic and Master of Scaremonies Joe Neff to join him in the Magical Studio in the Sky. They’ll look at all the films coming up for the 24-hour day of madness. The marathon this year runs from 12 noon October 20th until 12 noon October 21st at the Grandview Theater in Grandview, Ohio. In addition to the films discussed, there might be a premiere or two, plus classic trailers, short subjects, cartoons and other special features to keep you screaming all night long. One of us. One of us!

On This Week’s Show: Kevin and Neil find themselves in not-so-familiar territory by not totally fighting about this week’s movies. While Neil hasn’t seen The Princess and the Frog, he and Kevin pretty much agree about the other new releases like Invictus (though Kevin berates Neil for taking so much time to examing The Lovely Bones and later rages about Peter Jackson’s obnoxious cameo). Later in the show, they throw down a Fat Guy Five about their favorite hand-drawn Disney animated films, and in the process they also learn that they can’t count.

On This Week’s Show: Neil is whisked away for an “emergency” surgery in the Netherlands, so Kevin welcomes guest host Emily McFadden from the Cue the Film podcast. Together, they take a trip to District 9 and galavant with The Time Traveler’s Wife. Kevin and Emily also talk Bandslam and Vanessa Hudgens in pictures, as well as Ponyo and The Goods. In the second segment, Kevin and Emily derail right into a cogent discussion of modern cinema, and then they get back on track for a Fat Guy Five: Five Awesome Alien Flicks.
