Even though I was born in 2001, I’m a big fan of TV shows from the 80’s and 90’s. I won’t list them all, but one of my favorites is “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”
Ever since watching this TV show, I’ve been hooked on “Star Trek.” I have only seen a few episodes out of the seven seasons, but I’ll love this show until the end of my life. I am writing this review because today is “Take Your Child to Work Day.” The specific remastered episode I’m going to talk about is “The Most Toys.”
When I was watching these episodes, I was amazed by the way it looked on Blu-ray. The special effects looked great, and so did the sound. There was no lag or problems with the remastered edition, but if you were to get this on DVD it would look and sound terrible.
Well anyways, the episode “The Most Toys” is about Data (Brent Spiner) who is is transporting hitritium, from one of the only vendors who sells it, to The Enterprise. But on Data’s last trip, the vendor Fajo (Saul Rubinek) tricks the Enterprise into thinking that Data blew up on his shuttle by a hitritium explosion. But in reality, Fajo has kidnapped Data for his personal collection full of rare and valuable objects.
Back to the part about the Blu-ray being remastered: One of the things I noticed about the Blu-ray is that the color is more recognizable and is better lit. I watched the same episode on Netflix (and the original “Star Trek” on Netflix as it is on DVD), and it looked terrible after watching it on Blu-ray.
As a comparison the colors on Picard’s shirt is supposed to be red, right? On DVD it looked like it was magenta. But on Blu-ray it was a great bright red. When I watched this on Blu-ray, I was mystified. All of the sound, picture, and special effects were great.
I was amazed by how the creators of this Blu-ray made these sounds like the ones today. I especially thought that the picture was great. At the beginning of each scene were you see space, it looked like you were actually there. But on DVD, the picture was all blurry. I didn’t like seeing space pictures from a blurry screen.
The sound was terrific. You could really hear the actors and characters pronounce and emphasize the words. Also whenever you hear some effects or sound you couldn’t tell if the sounds were fake or real.
Also the effects like the touch screens and ray guns looked beautiful. In one part of this episode, Fajo uses a ray gun on a person they really looked like they were evaporating into thin air. The same part of this episode on DVD looked very cheesy.
If I were you I’d buy the remastered Blu-ray edition because it looks fantastic on an HD-TV. Even if you don’t have on it looks fantastic.
