Episode 136 – Where the Fat Things Are

Posted on October 16, 2009

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: Neil stuns the interwebs by once again seeing none of the new movies this week, but Kevin swoops in to save the day with his reviews of Where the Wild Things Are and Law Abiding Citizen. However, due to the fact that Screen Gems releases total crap, neither of them were afforded a chance to see The Stepfather, but that doesn’t stop the Fat Guys from offering their opinions. And speaking of opinions, in honor of Where the Wild Things Are, Kevin and Neil throw down a Fat Guy Five about great adaptations of children’s books before Neil makes a relatively creepy revelation about himself at the climax of the show.

Episode 135 – Paranormal Fativity

Posted on October 9, 2009

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: Neil crawls into the Magical Studio in the Sky in spite of the fact that he’s suffering from the Fantastic Flu (which he describes as a cross between swine flu and super-AIDS), though Kevin suspects this is just an excuse for having not seen any of the movies this week. Still, the Fat Guys go on a Couple’s Retreat and experience some Paranormal Activity. Kevin and Neil chat about some awesome horror movie experiences for the month of October, then lay down a Fat Guy Five for Five Great Films About Paranormal Activity.

Episode 134 – Fatipalism: A Love Story

Posted on October 2, 2009

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: Neil returns from the pit of the Great Unwashed, otherwise known as Fantastic Fest. Kevin is stunned that he actually saw some movies this week but understands the Vegas odds of that happening when five flicks head into wide release. The Fat Guys talk toys, roller derby, capitalism and zombies. Finally, Neil throws down a Fat Guy Five of his favorite films of Fantastic Fest while Kevin ridicules him for his bad plot synopses and gloats over the fact he’s better at predicting box office winners.

Episode 133 – Surro-fats

Posted on September 25, 2009

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: Neil is huddled down in the Magical Studio in the Sky, surrounded by movie bloggers like he’s in a boat of Cuban refugees, preparing for the blitz of sex and gore of Fantastic Fest. Kevin, meanwhile is jealous. The Fat Guys fight off Klingon attacks and giant wasps while they talk about movies like Fame, Pandorum and Surrogates. Kevin gives some love to comic book iPhone apps and the People of Wal-Mart, while Neil readies his Death Squad to invade Austin’s Alamo Draft House.

Episode 132 – Kevin and Neil’s Fat Bodies

Posted on September 18, 2009

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: Neil returns to the Magical Studio in the Sky fully prepared to talk about four movies he hasn’t seen. This week, the Fat Guys take a look at Jennifer’s Body even though Fox (that’d be the studio, not the waste-of-space actress) didn’t screen it for them. They also chew on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, help Matt Damon squeal in The Informant! and avoid Love Happens like the plague. In honor of Jennifer’s Body, Kevin and Neil serve up a Fat Guy Five featuring sexy horror movies and get really excited over a great week on DVD and Blu-ray.

Episode 131 – I Can Do Fat All By Myself

Posted on September 11, 2009

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: Gremlins of all kinds invade the Magical Studio in the Sky. It’s either a sign of the apocalypse or a sign of bad movies in September. The first wave of gremlins caused a glitch in Neil’s gender clarification surgery, so he had to return to the Netherlands to reclarify. Fortunately, David Medsker from Bullz-eye.com hopped into the co-pilot’s chair this week. But gremlins struck again, causing some unforeseen sound glitches. We apologize, and we promise to kill the gremlins if we see them. Still, Kevin and David were able to have a cogent discussion about the new releases, even though only one movie was screened early enough for review. Still, Kevin and David throw down some DVD picks and a Fat Guy Five that features five great movies with numbers in the title.

Episode 130 – Shenanigans!

Posted on September 4, 2009

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: So here we are with another weekend of movies that Hollywood deemed unfit for critical consumption. Kevin and Neil call shenanigans on the studios this week in the Magical Studio in the Sky. Kevin had the gumption to go see the only press screening of Extract while Neil boycotted it out of principle. Word is that even the few press members who got to see Gamer had a chastity belt of a gag order, and All About Steve was only shown in limited markets. Meh! Such is Labor Day weekend. Go rent a DVD or Blu-ray instead of heading to the cinemas. There’s much more quality stuff out at the video store than in the theaters this week.

Episode 129 – The Final Fatination

Posted on August 27, 2009

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: Neil staggers into the Magical Studio in the Sky after pulling an all-nighter and seeing more movies than Kevin has. The two commiserate about how the studios have refused to show them either of the horror movies opening this week, despite the fact that Kevin would love to see another 3D slasher. The Fat Guys also trip back to Woodstock (which took place before either was born) with Ang Lee’s new flick Taking Woodstock. Finally, Neil gives some love to World’s Greatest Dad, featuring a very hairy and very naked Robin Williams, then they throw down a Fat Guy Five about horror franchises that just… won’t… die!

Episode 128 – Inglourious Fatsterds

Posted on August 21, 2009

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: Kevin welcomes Neil back to the Magical Studio in the Sky from his emergency “gender re-clarification” surgery in the Netherlands. Neil celebrates his return by not seeing any movies, even though he wanted to see Inglourious Basterds. The Fat Guys wax poetic about the copious amount of swastikas that are made by Hollywood every year, and eventually they break out a Fat Guy Five: The Top Five Films of Quentin Tarantino… not including Inglorious Basterds. Oh, and they also watch as Post Grad flunks and Shorts gives kids an orgy of cartoon slapstick this weekend.

Posted on August 14, 2009

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: Neil is whisked away for an “emergency” surgery in the Netherlands, so Kevin welcomes guest host Emily McFadden from the Cue the Film podcast. Together, they take a trip to District 9 and galavant with The Time Traveler’s Wife. Kevin and Emily also talk Bandslam and Vanessa Hudgens in pictures, as well as Ponyo and The Goods. In the second segment, Kevin and Emily derail right into a cogent discussion of modern cinema, and then they get back on track for a Fat Guy Five: Five Awesome Alien Flicks.

Episode 126 – The Rise of Chubby

Posted on August 7, 2009

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: Kevin throws some hatred Neil’s way for being one of the few critics in the country to be allowed to see G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA. They put their differences aside for a brief moment to discuss the alien holocaust movie known as Julie & Julia. Then the claws come out as the Fat Guys have a smackdown about whether A Perfect Getaway sucks or rocks. Then, in honor of films like G.I. Joe and Transformers 2, they throw down a Fat Guy Five about movies that aren’t great but they loved as kids.

Episode 125 – Fatty People

Posted on July 30, 2009

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: Kevin and Neil reunite in the Magical Studio in the Sky after Neil’s stint at the big house (or rather the little house; it was Pahrump, Nevada after all). They contemplate how funny Funny People is and whether anyone knows that Aliens in the Attic is coming out. Neil wets his pants at the mere mention of The Collector and Kevin gloats about his prophetic predictions about farting Guinea pigs topping the box office. Finally, the Fat Guys lay down a new Fat Guy Five, which highlights their favorite funny people who went from the stand-up stage to the silver screen.

Episode 124 – F-Force!

Posted on July 24, 2009

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: Neil is back from the nation’s capital after an arduous road trip over half the country. Kevin relishes in making fun of the fact that he hasn’t seen any of the major releases this week. Neil prepares to head west, young man, for the San Diego Comic-Con to worship at the Mecca of Geekdom. But before he goes, Neil sits down for one last podcast to talk about Katherine Heigl’s new teeth, Gerard Butler’s sexiness, evil orphans, the Iraq war and 3D secret agent Guinea Pigs.

[Editor’s note: This episode of FG@TM was recorded earlier this week before Neil and Cole Abaius embarked on their road trip to San Diego, which inluded an unfortunate pitstop in Pahrump, NV where they await arraignment by a judge who bears an uncanny resemblance to John Goodman.]

Episode 123 – Fatty Potter and the Fat-Blood Prince

Posted on July 17, 2009

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: Neil continues to lurk around our nation’s capital on a clandestine assignment, so FSR’s Features Editor Cole Abaius steps in as guest Fat Guy this week (although he insists he’s very appropriately body-proportionate). Cole lends his dulcet tones of his pre-pubescent voice to the show, spinning tales of the Harry Potter junket and Emma Watson’s ability to swear. Kevin weighs in with his review of the new wizard film, and the Fat Guy and Body-Proportionate Guy hit us up with a new Fat Guy Five, inspired by Hogwarts: Five Cinematic Schools We’d Like to Attend.

Episode 122 – Fätsö

Posted on July 10, 2009

fatguysatthemovies_banner

On This Week’s Show: Neil has gone on a clandestine mission to our nation’s capital, including a visit to the Pentagon to warn our military of the impending threat of giant alien robots. This leads Kevin to meet up with his chubby co-host in the Magical Studio in the Sky, from an undisclosed location (which may or may not be a jail cell). Together, they travel to the Moon before joining Brüno in saying I Love You, Beth Cooper! Before handing down a Fat Guy Five about awesome movies that take place in space, Neil tries to declare that Michael Bay is an intellectual director while Kevin unleashes some venom on the late and perverse Michael Jackson.
