As a companion to “Ocean Wonderland 3D,” Jean-Michel Cousteau presents “Sharks 3D,” which takes a look at one of the most feared, misunderstood and oldest living creatures in the ocean. Unlike the ever-popular “Shark Week” on The Discovery Channel, “Sharks 3D” isn’t just meant to terrify. Instead, it is meant to educate and offer some fascination into these species.
It’s a digestible film – no pun intended – at only 42 minutes. Originally presented in IMAX, it is meant to show the majesty of the sharks rather than the terror of them. Cousteau pushes the education and this fascination more than the hunting mentality seen in most videos. Similarly, he also pushes the environmental message, which is really heavy-handed in both this and “Ocean Wonderland 3D.” Still, for the shark fan, it’s a slower-paced and less horrifying look at these creatures.
“Sharks 3D” is packaged as a 3D Blu-ray, which plays in both 3D Blu-ray players and standard ones. Shot in 3D for the IMAX screen, it offers a closer look beyond just the 3D gimmick.
