Idiot Boxers Review: Flashpoint, Ep: 3.05

Episode: “Coming to You Live”
Episode synopsis: When a famous radio disc jokey takes a local politician hostage, it is up to the SRU to keep the situation from broadcasting live over the entire city while at the same time unraveling the mystery of the politician’s past.
Major developments: Nothing major happened in this episode in relation to any of the SRU team members. One thing I did notice though was that the new team member was no where to be found this episode. Go figure….
What rocked: One of the things I have always loved about Flashpoint is its energy. Every episodes is non stop, just beautiful pacing. But this one seemed like it stood out. Even before the actual crisis begins, the episode just feels like it has a very unique style.
Which brings me to my next point. Someone needs to give the team that wrote, directed, and edited this episode a movie deal, stat! While it may have looked like a Flashpoint episode in its lighting and color, some of the shots and especially the pacing really reminded me of the late 90s early 00s days of the thriller genre. This episode felt like a shortened Kurt Wimmer movie. It had a real intensity to it that I appreciated.
What sucked: While this episode did bring back the traditional non-linear opening that fans know and love, the episode still did some CSI style flashbacks, which if you recall, I did complain about last episode. I do understand wanting to show the past event the flashbacks displays, but what’s the fun in that. I would rather see the reaction on the character’s faces to being told what happened.
Final thoughts: This was one of the most intense episodes of Flashpoint yet. Really some big budget style editing and directing going on.
