Idiot Boxers Review: Persons Unknown, Ep: 03

TV review by Merrill Barr, co-host of The Idiot Boxers
Show: Persons Unknown
Airs: NBC, Mondays, 10pm
Episode: “The Way Through”
Episode synopsis: After a week of failed attempts to escape the town, the hostages receive a gift from their kidnappers, three gas masks. While trying to decide who will get a chance to live, more secrets come out.
Major developments: This weeks episode had many major developments. The first is that we have our first clue as to which of the hostages might actually be one of “them.” I won’t say who but, if you follow the show, he isn’t a car salesman.
The next development came from Charlie. We learn through footage that the kidnappers show to Bill, Charlie has a deep dark secret he is not only hiding, but is directly contradicting the facts of to the rest of the group. This also leads to a development about the kidnappers themselves, they have been watching these people for a very long time. The second proof of that came when Janet saw a painting in the ice cream shop of her daughter and her mother together.
In the outside world, not only is Mark pushing the wrong persons button’s but, we learns that he has a much closer relationship with Janet than anyone realizes.
What rocked: This is the best episode of Persons Unknown so far and completely makes up for the boring storyline between Moira and Tori in episode 2. We got a great dynamic with the gas masks. Everyone’s true primal instincts come out with this one. This is the kind of writing I was waiting for, and boy did I get what I wanted.
What sucked: Nothing. This was one of those perfect episodes of a TV show that are few are far between.
Final thoughts: If I had to choose one of the three current episodes to sell someone on watching Persons Unknown, this would be it.
What’s next: Next week, some of the abductees might be “checking out.”
