TV review by Merrill Barr, co-host of The Idiot Boxers

Show: Persons Unknown
Airs: NBC, Mondays, 10pm
Episode: “The Edge”

Episode synopsis: It has been a week since the gang was originally kidnapped and they are starting to get restless. They need to find a way out of the town… Now!

Major developments: The episode starts out with the group removing the implants that make them pass out when they get to far to the town’s border. But this is soon corrected by the captors when they discover a microwave fence. Eventually they find a way out, but that only adds more questions. Mark is also beginning to see blow back from his investigation into Janet’s disappearance.

What rocked: Well, first of all, that whole microwave wall thing… That was quite creative if I do say so myself. I don’t think there a lot of writers who would of thought of something so random. We also saw how the group is starting to fight back. Especially in the form of Janet. She got fed up with being told what to do, and something tells me that this is one woman you really don’t wanna piss off, at least that’s what the final scene makes me believe. Also, it was really cool to see the show open up a possible sci-fi angle with the “escape” of the gang.

What sucked: The whole story line with Tori and Moira was really annoying. I get that this was just to set up the idea of Tori’s father being an ambassador/CIA agent but, there were better ways to do it. Not to mention the fact that the “twist” with Moira was seen a mile out and, just way to convenient.

Final thoughts: Overall, this was just another set up episode. I really don’t expect the series to really start picking up until episode four at the earliest. Considering this is a mini-series, I have no doubt that we are definitely building to something big.

What’s next: Next week, someone might be going home sooner than expected…
