Idiot Boxers Review: Criminal Minds, Fifth Season Finale

TV review by Merrill Barr, co-host of The Idiot Boxers
Show: Criminal Minds
Airs: CBS, Wednesdays, 9pm
Episodes: Season Five Finale
While it may be your run-of-the-mill police procedural, Criminal Minds does add a dark twist to the formula. One of the best things about the show has always been its season finales. The most recent one, was no different.
This episode decided to put its focus on Special Agent Derek Morgan who, throughout this entire season has been taking on more responsibility, particularly when Hodge had a moral break down. So, when he had to take the lead on a case that involved a police detective, he was more than game. You really felt bad for him when this weeks bad guy had him tied up, which led to a brilliant cliff hanger ending for the season.
Speaking of the bad guy for this week, it worked quite nicely. This weeks killer was dubbed “The Prince of Darkness” based on the fact that he only kills during a blackout. He was creepy, ugly and scary. Exactly what a Criminal Minds baddy is supposed to be.
All in all, the finale delivered on your standard Criminal Minds episode. Though not as amazing as the ending of last season or season three, this one did its job well. I am looking forward to see what’s in store for the BAU team in the fall.
